The Speedrome is proud to have back School Bus Figure 8. It has been nearly a decade since the very popular event has been on our racing surface. Kids stand out in front of the house Monday thru Friday waiting on the big yellow bus to pick them up for school. On many occasions, children have thought about their driver trading some paint on the way to class. And now those youngsters and their parents can witness just this very thing! The large and awkward machines will take the challenge of maneuvering around the famed crossover course just hours after the Indy 500.
There is an infamous list of wild daredevil drivers already signed up for this Crash-A-Rama Series action. The notable notorious names of Ronnie "Racing Ronnie" Adams, Sean "Crazy Cuban" Michaels, Ben "DJ Benjammin" Craft, Jimmy "Flying Elvis" Gnojek, Dave "Boston Dave" Lavine, Jay "Mad Man Murphy" Murphy, Jay "Violent Jay" Trocki, and George "Moe" Knauer are raring to go in this extravaganza. There are many hometown talents getting machinery ready as well. The Crash-A-Rama Series program launches at 7:30pm Sunday night May 30th putting a bow on an all-star Memorial Day Speedrome racing weekend schedule that is unprecedented (see a full listing below).
The Speedrome Figure 8 tradition dates back to the 1940’s. Over the next few decades, a bevy of stockcar classes tested the dangerous intersection. The 1960’s brought many legendary drivers to the motorsports form elevating Figure 8 to regional and national status. In 1977, the most grueling event ever was launched, the World Figure 8® Championship Three Hour Endurance Race®. Since then, heralded last names like St John, Arnold, Tunny, Lee, Dossey, Douthitt, McMurtrey, Greig, and oh so many more have entertained thousands of Speedrome faithful on the Figure 8. Several of the track’s current best are jockeying for driver spots in this upcoming School Bus event. Who will win and who will suffer the agony of defeat May 30?
